Dentists may use some dangerous-looking tools and sometimes they are not so gentle during routine cleanings or fillings, but overall, Chicago patients trust that their dentists will be careful when doing their jobs.
In November 2010, an Illinois patient had visited his dentist to have a tooth extracted. Although it is not uncommon for dentists to pull teeth, the patient was unexpectedly harmed during the tooth extraction. The patient is now requesting compensation for his injuries and suffering.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed in Madison County Circuit Court on Oct. 30, the dentist had caused the patient to suffer serious injuries when he pulled out the patient’s tooth. The tooth extraction had caused the patient to suffer a nerve injury. The nerve injury led to additional complications, including disfigurement.
The injuries were painful and costly. The harmed patient is seeking at least $50,000 in compensation to cover his medical expenses and other costs associated with the injuries he sustained during the tooth extraction.
Reports have not disclosed what caused the patient to become injured when his tooth was pulled by the dentist.
Doctors, dentists and other medical professionals provide treatment and care to thousands of patients every single day in the U.S. These patients not only expect to receive quality care, but they also trust that their medical providers will give them the care and treatment they need without making harmful mistakes.
Unfortunately, medical professionals do make mistakes, even during routine or simple procedures, such as extracting a tooth. These preventable mistakes can be extremely harmful and costly.
