Last August, we had mentioned on our Chicago medical malpractice law blog that a woman had filed a lawsuit against a local hospital and Planned Parenthood of Illinois for their roles in her daughter’swrongful death. The lawsuit, which was filed in Cook County Circuit Court, stated that the woman’s daughter had died from severe bleeding and other complications from a botched procedure.
According to reports, a second wrongful death lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the deceased woman’s estate. The 24-year-old woman was a mother to a young boy. The boy’s father is now requesting that the woman’s son receive compensation for the tragic loss of his mother since it is believed that her death could have been avoided. Unfortunately, serious medical errors contributed to the young woman’s death, and now her son will be forced to live the rest of his life without his mother’s love and support.
Many Chicago residents might recall that the woman died after she had an abortion performed at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago on July 20. Although women who have abortions performed by licensed professionals in the U.S. have a low risk of suffering serious or fatal complications, the young woman began to bleed severely from the procedure while she was at the Planned Parenthood clinic. After discovering that the woman was suffering from complications, the woman was taken to a local hospital for additional treatment. However, the woman did not survive.
The lawsuit argues that the abortion had been “improperly performed,” which led to severe complications. Once the woman was taken to a hospital, additional errors occurred, which prevented the woman from being able to survive the surgical error. An autopsy was performed and it confirmed that the woman died of a hemorrhage, which was caused by the botched abortion. The victim’s family believes the woman would have survived her injuries had she received proper treatment for her injuries at the hospital.
The most recent lawsuit in the wrongful death case was filed just last week. The father of the woman’s child is seeking at least $250,000 in compensation for their son.
